OUR VISION FOR INDEPENDENT MUSIC PROMOTION:

Our main goal at Relax Music Group and RMGDigital.NET, is to offer Programmers and DJs from Broadcast Stations and Internet Streams, Quality Music from Independent Artists. Our company was originally founded in 1983 with one simple principal... "Music is the Most Important Part of the Music Business". In the Digital Age of the Music Industry, we have a tremendous opportunity to develop a new model of Radio Promotion that focuses on promoting worthy artists deserving of airplay, that is efficient, economical and environmentally friendly.

The previous economic model of the industry, was built around the Compact Disc. An artist would record their songs, and press CDs for distribution at Retail, Press and Radio outlets. Radio airplay along with favorable music reviews would generate sales at retail outlets. All three combined, if worked properly, would generate interest at Venues to book the artist to perform live gigs. This model worked at every scale, from the local garage band who sold 1000 CDs, to the major label artist that sold Millions of CDs. Indie bands developed themselves into the mainstream by constantly putting out CDs and playing 200 dates a year touring the country in a smelly old van without air conditioning. Artists did whatever they could to build their fanbase, sell CDs and create a buzz at College Radio so a Major Label would take interest.

In the digital age, the CD is quickly becoming irrelevant. It is no longer necessary to ship CDs across the country to put into record stores, because there really aren't record stores anymore. Digital files can be purchased right now on iTunes from millions of indie artists around the world. Press outlets have online counterparts, and fewer and fewer magazines are being sold each year in favor of the same content made available on their web sites. Tens of thousands of Internet Radio streams populate the web, with most of the Commercial, Public and College Radio broadcasters also providing web streams. Most if not all radio stations program at least some of their content with MP3 files.

One of the hold outs from the old economic model, is still Radio... particularly College and Public radio stations. Caught between the Major labels, who can lavish Music Directors with CDs and physical product, and the millions of artists from every conceivable genre on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube, Indie Radio Stations are still reluctant to accept digital material because they are overwhelmed on both sides. With the economics of the digital music age, however, it is becoming more and more impractical for independent artists to pay for CD pressing, let alone the expense of having professional representation to radio. More and more programming at College Radio is major label music, because most indies can't afford to compete.

Pressing CDs creates a metal coated plastic disc housed in a plastic case, which is inherently unfriendly to the environment. The cost of packaging and shipping a CD to Radio, in addition to the packing materials and fuel expended in the process, is another expensive component that is simply no longer needed. Broadcast Quality MP3 files are easily transfered, completely replacing a significant amount of expenditure on the part of the artist and material that will eventually be discarded. At the same time, Radio Promotion is just as essential in the digital age as at any other time in the industry's history. How else is anyone going to discover an artist's music on a wider scale, if it is not at least given the opportunity to be played at radio stations.

Our Vision, is to provide a proprietary digital distribution system to Radio, that is focused on the human element of radio promotion. Our team contacts Music Directors, Specialty Show Hosts and DJs at Broadcast and Internet Radio Stations directly, providing them with access to the RMGDigital.NET music database. Promoters interact with their contacts at radio, suggesting artists and tracks, and tracking feedback on airplay reaction the artists receive. Our goal is to emphasize the quality independent artists we represent and the benefits of programming digital music on their radio station or internet stream.

Of course, we still promote music the old fashioned way, by sending out CDs and working our stations for airplay, just like we have since 1983. We will continue to lead our peers in effective radio promotion no matter how we deliver new music. At the same time, we see the future of our industry, and are positioning Relax Music Group and RMGDigital.NET to provide quality independent music to radio programmers across any platform.

"When a DJ hears a good song and they like it, they'll play it!" We believe that Radio, especially independent oriented College Stations, truely can do what Radio used to do in the past... Break Cool New Music! The fundamental purpose of RMG Digital, is to provide the platform for Programmers and DJs to discover great new music and to play it on the air. By providing quality new artists with great music, and a professional staff for tracking, guidance and support, we see College Radio taking execptional talent and breaking them to the next level through purely digital means. Sooner or later, this will become the norm.

There are many other services that provide radio promotion, and many more that promise digital distribution. RMGDigital.NET is unique, as we bring decades of experience on both sides of radio, and understand the needs of artists and programmers alike. We know what it is like to receive hundreds of CDs and sort through thousands of songs to play on the air. We also know what it is like to represent the struggling artist with great music, who only needs a little break to reach the next level. Our principals and staff are in love with music as much as the artists that make it and the DJs that play it, because music is our life too.
